My Loving Tan Review!

A little over a week ago, I posted a series of stories on my Instagram about a self-tanning  product by the brand Loving Tan. My DM’s were full of questions from people asking about the product, the price, & if it really worked. I posted a poll asking you guys if you’d be interested in a blog post to answer all the questions, and almost 100% of the votes were a “yes”! So, here we are!

With so many of my wedding festivities coming up, and the weather not peaking over 70 degrees in the past few weeks, I was in dire need of some color! I’m kind of a freak about sunscreen / protecting my skin, so a tanning bed wasn’t (and won’t ever be) an option for me, personally. I also have been doing laser hair removal, which prohibits me from naturally tanning, as my skin is more sensitive. As for spray tanning… I’ve just seen it go terribly wrong and I didn’t wanna chance it. I’m sure it works for some, if you find the right place, but I personally am a little freaked out by it. Sooooo all of that leaves us with one option left: self tanner!

I had only used a Jergens self-tanner once before, and I was blotchy all over, & felt like the smell of the tanner lingered & was strong.  So needles to say, I was a little nervous to try this product. I was scared of streaks, staining my clothes,   looking like an oompa loompa, smelling like a walking bottle of self tanner… ya know, the usual. But guys, I am happy to report this stuff is practically fool-proof, made up of all natural ingredients, hydrates your skin, and is paraben free!

So without further ado, let me spill allllll the Loving Tan tea for you! ✨

What I Used

LT has a ton of different options when it comes to their products, but I chose to try out the ‘2 Hour Express Mousse’ in the shade ‘Medium’. I did a bunch of research & read lots of reviews, and this seemed to be exactly what I was looking for. Because Loving Tan is designed to resemble an olive-complexion tone, it does not make you orange.

How to Apply

The instructions on the bottle suggested application works best on clean, exfoliated, moisturized skin. So after showering & applying body lotion, I used the deluxe applicator mit, and applied the mousse in circular motions, starting on my legs, then all over my body. It took me almost 45 mins to apply everywhere evenly (probably my OCD self wanting it to be perfect!). Once applied, with this specific product, you wait two hours to let it dry.  Once two hours is up, you simply shower off, (water only) allowing the excess to wash off. Once you get out of the shower, your skin will be bronzed & glowy!🙌🏼

My Mistakes

When I go to use this product again, there are a couple of things I will do differently.

  1. Have a friend / sister / mom / handy.

There were some spots on my upper & lower back that were difficult for me to reach, even with the mitt. I think having someone else there to reach those spots for you would help make sure your tan applies evenly across your back/ hard-to-reach areas.

2.  Go Darker.

Like I said, I purchased the shade ‘medium’ and personally, that was not dark enough for me. After I got out of the shower, I felt like my tan was not as dark as I had hoped for. A lot of the reviews I read suggested going darker than you feel you should, but that freaked me out as a first-timer so I stuck to their lightest shade, which is the medium. I know now that medium is for very fair people, and I’m more olive-toned, so next time, I will be ordering it in ‘dark’.

3. Apply in natural light

I applied mine in my bathroom at home, which has a tiny window on the opposite side, and essentially terrible lighting. Once I was done applying, I went into my room, next to a huge window, and instantly saw some areas I needed to touch up. So when you go to apply, a room with natural lighting is best!

As stated earlier, I did lots of researching / review-reading before applying this product to make sure I was prepared for it. Here were the tips I found & stuck to!

  1.  Apply lotion before applying the mousse.
  2. Use a make-up brush (preferably a synthetic hair-type) for application on areas with creases – such as hands/fingers, wrists, shoulders, ankles, toes, knees, and elbows.
  3.  Apply in circular motions.
  4.  Apply a very light layer to the face using the make up brush, primarily sticking to contouring areas ( personally, I had to look up where the heck those were! 🤷🏻‍♀️😂)
  5. Give yourself ample time to dry… maybe 2.5 hours instead of 2.
  6. After applying, sit on a towel & dress in a robe or old shirt you don’t care about in case you were to stain it – which I did not experience!
  7. When you rinse off after your 2 hours is up, rinse only with water. Do not use body wash / soap, as the soap can act as a barrier for the skin and prohibit the tan from fully developing.
  8. Continue to apply lotion everyday after showering as this will help the tan fade naturally.

The Mitt!

I used a discount code from a tagged post I saw for a free Deluxe Applicator Mitt. In my opinion, THIS is what makes this product streak-proof. The mitt helps you maintain a wide, uniformed application, so long as you sustain circular motions.

**Search any Youtuber reviewing LT and you should be able to find a discount code from them 🙂

How Long it Lasts

My tan lasted me about a week! I’ve read reviews where some people say their tan lasted a week and a half. Mine faded naturally; starting as a glow, and gradually fading back to my natural skin tone. I will note that I noticed the tan would come off little by little whenever I shaved. But, that is to be expected as it is basically sitting on your pores.

My before & after – no filter 🙂

I cannot recommend this product enough for those who are looking to safely get a natural- looking tan! Let me know if you use this self tanner, these tips, or any other products I must try in the ‘Leave A Reply’ box below!
